Department of Physics, CTU-FEE

The teaching at the department focuses on educating students in the field of physics and its applications, from the bachelor’s level to specialized subjects in master’s and doctoral studies. The department provides a fundamental physics course for the entire faculty. It is also significantly involved in teaching specialized courses. We supervise numerous student projects in these and other programs. We offer two doctoral programs: Applied Physics (which includes the original Plasma Physics field) and Acoustics.

We conduct research in the areas of plasma physics, materials, sensors, biomedicine, acoustics, and the environmental sciences through theory, experiments, and advanced computational and simulation methods. In teaching and research, we closely collaborate with the Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering of the Czech Technical University in Prague, institutes of the Czech Academy of Sciences, and numerous international institutions, laboratories, and companies. Our work is widely cited, appreciated by editors, mentioned in the media, receives awards at conferences, and appears on the covers of scientific journals. We have recently opened a new Reference Laboratory of Correlative Microscopy (tacom.fel.cvut.cz) at the department for broad utilization.

The popularization of physics and the faculty for elementary and secondary schools, their teachers, and the general public is an integral part of our work. A significant activity in popularizing physics is the organization of Physics Thursdays, a free series of lectures and seminars that the Department of Physics has been hosting since 1993 for students, teachers, professionals, and the general public. We also regularly participate in the Chemistry at CTU event, including involving participants in laboratory experiments. The Astro-camps and excursions to our laboratories of acoustics, plasma, or biomedical engineering are also popular. We provide supplementary courses in mathematics and physics to support education and equal opportunities for study.
